I recently completed my Masters of Arts of Education Degree with a focus on Literacy Education. During this time I focused on courses and topics that would help me implement the best practices and strategies into my classroom. After defining literacy, I focused on reading and writing instruction and how I use it in my classroom. Below I have included information that showcases my reflection and how I applied my courses to my classroom.

Evaluating Reading Instruction

Literacy Outside The ClassroomReading is an essential part of our everyday life. Students read outside the classroom everyday: their text messages, social media, labels on their food etc. My goal is that students recognized the role that reading plays in their everyday life and bring that information and perspective into the classroom. First I began to discover what it was that students read outside of school, and then planned a lesson that brought that into the classroom. This is the lesson I planned and my research into my students' reading outside the classroom.

The message of this book really stood out to me, and it is something that I would use in a middle school classroom. In the essay I reflected on how I would use this book in In this essay I analyze the book and connect his speech to the book. |
